Foothills Taxidermy: Wildlife Art for the Sportsman
I am an Alberta Taxidermist based in Mountain View, Alberta Canada. My love of wildlife and the outdoors, combined with a passion for art and sculpture, has led me to taxidermy as a natural and fitting career choice.
I remember as a teenager reading a breakthrough magazine in a taxidermy shop where I was taking a work experience class. A featured article spotlighting an award winning mount of a running coyote caught my eye, and I could not believe the realism and accuracy in the composition.
I am fortunate enough myself to have learned the trade and have been in operation now since 1993. I am still fascinated and eager to learn more, as this career has been both exciting and challenging.
My approach has been to seek out the finest quality and anatomically correct mannikins to use as a starting point for each project. From there, careful sculpting, and pose alterations to the mannikin lead to a finished piece that will be proudly displayed in your home as a work of art. On life size mounts and pedestal bases, our knowledge of habitat construction lends to an added element of having a piece of the wilderness in your home.
On this website you may notice I have included more than one photo of some mounts, in order to give an idea of what to expect from different angles of view. I hope you enjoy the tour, and look forward to hearing from you!
Best Regards, David Nelson
